in extreme times, it can seem difficult to find balance in your life. your routines are all thrown out, your social life is non-existent, and your life is suddenly filled with free time. all of this stay at home freedom can be toxic if you can’t find a way to bring balance back into your life. it is critical, especially in the face of disease, to maintain your physical health and your mental and emotional health; however, doing this from your living room may seem a bit too daunting while your mind is so preoccupied. that’s why we want to share with you a few very simple things you can add into your day to strengthen your body, reinforce your immune system, sharpen your mind, and lift your spirits.
if you have never been into working out, there is no time like the present! there are millions of ways to move your body; the trick is finding the one you like. get on youtube, instagram, or find a few free apps with different ways to get your body in motion. spend some time watching videos, images, and workout programs and see how you would like your body to be able to move. start trying something different every day! dance monday, tabata tuesday, walk wednesday, yoga thursday, kick box friday, calisthenics saturday, breathing sunday. it doesn’t have to be long or grueling. just get your blood pumping and shake off some of the sedentary energy.
since breakfast isn’t eaten rushing out the door and you have more than an hour for lunch, spend a little more time on meal preparation and enjoying fresh foods. nothing is better for your immune system than a balanced diet filled with fresh or frozen fruits and veggies. get on pinterest or your favorite recipe site and start looking up new ways to get in more greens and whole grains. think buddha bowls, green drinks, and hearty vegetable soups. healthy eating can be time consuming, but that’s okay. right now, we all have a little more time. experiment with the many healthy food styles: vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, dairy free, non-gmo, all organic, raw, sugar free, and fasting.
there is a lot of information circulating in our world today, and not much of it will help your mind stay centered and healthy. it can be very easy to fall into day after day of videos, tv shows, and movies. even if it’s just for an hour, find something that allows your thoughts to rebalance and find peace. this may be a form of art, crafts, reading, writing, singing, gardening, or creating in some way. it is a great time to start an online program and study something you’ve always wanted to learn. pull out the puzzles, or play games with loved ones in your home, or get a virtual game of scrabble going.
you have heard of the many negative side effects of stress. right now, your body needs all the love and support you can give it, which means it’s time to make laughter a priority! whether it’s funny cat videos, a hysterical podcast, or an hour chatting with your buddy from college, make the time to feel happy every single day. joy can rebalance your body’s cortisol levels and help lessen the effects of stress and anxiety. if you simply can’t find anything to laugh about, then take up meditation. this too can lift your spirits and bring balance into your thoughts and emotions.
